Welcome to the 2019 West Australian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Sector Conference, which is hosted annually by the Aboriginal Health Council of Western Australia (AHCWA).

We are pleased to advise that The Hon. Ken Wyatt  AM, MP - Minister for Aged Care; Minister for Indigenous Health will be officially opening the conference and the Hon. Roger Cook MLA - Deputy Premier; Minister for Health; Mental Health will be delivering a Keynote Address.   

The Conference Program will focus on the theme - Lead the Way, Challenge the Possibilities, Imagine the Future. 

The Conference will promote the journey of the sector so far, the challenges and successes along the way and the plans for the future of Aboriginal holistic health care delivery provided by the 23 AHCWA Members Services located throughout Western Australia.

Our national body, the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO) defines Aboriginal health as ‘not just the physical well-being of an individual but refers to the social, emotional and cultural well-being of the whole Community in which each individual is able to achieve their full potential as a human being thereby bringing about the total well-being of their Community’.

Special guests will provide the forum with exciting information on new health technology initiatives and there will be Commonwealth, State and NACCHO updates on where the sector will be heading, in 2019 and beyond.

The Lead the Way, Challenge the Possibilities, Imagine the Future Conference will also showcase the AHCWA member services through a series of presentations over the two days as well as highlighting the following:

  • Who Led the Way in Perth Metro?
  • Who Led the Way in the Kimberley?
  • Who Led the Way in the Murchison/Gascoyne?
  • Conference feedback from the AHCWA Aboriginal Youth Health Committee 
  • Aboriginal Workforce Pathways, Leadership and Succession Planning
  • Improving Water Quality in Remote Communities
  • Public Health Issues and Outbreaks
  • Social and Emotional Wellbeing
  • National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) 
  • Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) National Roadmap
  • Advanced Technology in Public Health, Genomics and the Mappa Project  

Delegates will be provided with an opportunity for professional development, networking and capacity building whilst sharing their wisdom on Aboriginal ways of working and successful program outcomes.

Esplanade Hotel

The 2019 conference will be held at The Esplanade Hotel in Fremantle.  

AHCWA has negotiated a rate of $165 per night for a variety of different rooms (Superior Rooms will be the first to be booked).

A buffet breakfast can be added to your reservation at $20 per person (this may appear as the full rate when booking, but will be adjusted to the discounted rate by the hotel).

Valet parking for hotel guests may also be added to your booking at $20 per day (this may appear as the full rate when booking, but will be adjusted to the discounted rate by the hotel).
